Doula Services
My services include the following:
Initial Meeting-
This is a time when we get to meet face to face. At this visit I would love to meet not only you, but your partner as well. We will meet at a central location and I can answer all your questions and address your concerns. This meeting is to see if we will be a good match for each other, there is no fee and no obligation.
(Once you decide to hire me as your doula, you will need to let me know right away so I can reserve your spot on my calendar. I do only take 1-2 clients a month.)
Prenatal Visits-
We will have 1-2 prenatal visits that will occur 1-2 months before your due date at your home. At this time we will discuss your birth plan (or I can help you with one), hopes, fears, concerns and go over comfort measures for labor. I will give you the information and tools you need to make the right decisions for you and your birth.
Phone and e-mail support-
During your pregnancy, I am here for you. We will be in touch throughout, but more so towards the end of your pregnancy.
(Once you are two weeks away from your due date I am on call for you. When you decide you need me, I will be there. I will have a back up doula available, just in case, and you can meet her if you wish.)
During Labor and the Birth-
The moment you think you are in labor, you will call me and we will be in constant contact. That will give me time to get things in order on my end and give you and your partner a chance to do the same. We will have already figured out, during our prenatal visit, when you would like for me to join you. For most moms that will be during the beginning active phase of labor, as most moms are able to handle early labor with just their partner. I can labor with you at your home or meet you directly at the hospital. Once I arrive, I will offer support, encouragement, continuous care and will offer many comfort measures. I take pictures of your labor and birth in progress (with your permission) as a way to document your special day. While the mother is my primary focus, I will be available to help her partner with his/her needs. I will be your advocate for time to make decisions, try to inform you as you make those decisions and be the calm in the room. Once your baby has arrived, I stay with you for an hour or two. During that time I can help with breastfeeding and whatever else needs to be done until you are ready for some private time with your newest family member.
Postpartum Visit-
I will give you a call the next day to check in and on the fifth day after baby has arrived. During that second phone call we can schedule our last visit. We will meet 1-2 weeks after your baby's birth in your home. We will go over the labor and birth ,giving some closure to that momentous event, I will give you the CD I made with your birth "story" in pictures, I can give you any support or referrals that you may need, and I will get to enjoy holding a newborn again (which is one of my FAVORITE parts of this job)!
Cost-
Prices for doulas vary widely, from $500-1,000+. This covers the doula's time from the point of a signed contract, the prenatal visit, costs during the labor and birth (gas, childcare, food etc.) and postnatal visit. My services are $500.
Some third party reimbursement for doulas is available. Check with your insurance company or flex spending account.
